About This Position
Provide computer support to end-users. Maintain classroom technology environment. Contribute to the proper installation, maintenance and disposal of desktop computers and printers. Installs, configures and upgrades operating systems and software, using standard business and administrative packages; may modify specific applications for use in operational departments. Installs, assembles and configures computers, laptops, network connected devices including tablets and cell phones, monitors, network infrastructure and peripherals such as printers, scanners and related hardware; pulls device cables and rewires or directs the rewiring of cables as required for new device installations and office reconfiguration. Troubleshoots problems with computer systems, including troubleshooting hardware and software, email, network and peripheral equipment problems; makes repairs and corrections where required. Acts as a technical resource in assisting users to resolve problems with equipment and data; works with a centralized help desk to facilitate exchange of information and advice. Build working knowledge through documentation and vendor resources to support technical connections and configuration of operational technology network and video/display hardware and software settings of medical/diagnostic/research/radiographic equipment as needed to support the teaching, research, and public service functions of the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) and veterinary teaching hospital.
Assists in instructing CVM staff/faculty/students in the use of standard business and administrative software, including word processing, spreadsheets and database management; provides instruction or written documentation where required. Duties are illustrative and not inclusive and may vary with individual assignment. Assist with training support technicians and student IT workers as to the general procedures for configuration, use of, and maintenance of workstations and other technologies in the CVM environment.
Work with minimal supervision on some short and long-term projects for purchasing and distributing technology needs within the veterinary teaching hospital. Engage in a program of continuous professional development. Conduct all activities in a manner in line with CVM's vision, promoting good external relations and a positive image. Maintain and develop computer related skills. Read journals, books and whitepapers to understand new and existing technologies. Learn more about computer networks and their applications in the workplace. The incumbent must
develop new professional skills and knowledge. The incumbent must utilize those new skills and knowledge by applying them to areas within CVM (technology transfer).

Required Qualifications
- High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
- HS/GED plus two years post-secondary education and two years related experience or HS/GED and four years of related experience.
- Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge: Installing, configuring and upgrading operating systems (including Windows, Apple, and Linux on desktop, laptop, and mobile devices) and software, using primarily standard financial, business and administrative application. Installing, configuring, assembling and repairing desktop computers, laptops, network connected devices (including tablets and cell phones), monitors, network infrastructure and peripherals such as printers and related hardware. Troubleshooting and solving hardware and software problems. Instructing users on new or upgraded computer applications and hardware. Using initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines and procedures. Organizing own work, setting priorities and meeting critical time deadlines. Communicating effectively with co-workers, subordinates, superiors, the general public, representatives of public and private organizations and others sufficient to exchange or convey information. Must have knowledge of computer hardware, software and peripherals such as central processing units, monitors, cables, network systems, printers; Current technology related to CVHS applications, and the equipment and software required to maximize system support; Procedures for installing, configuring, upgrading, troubleshooting and repairing applicable software, hardware and peripherals; Techniques for explaining technical concepts and procedures to non-technical users.
- Bachelor's Bachelor's degree plus 10 years related experience or master's degree and 8 years related experience, demonstrated leadership skills, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Completion of two years of college-level coursework, information technology or a related field and two years of general computer installation, maintenance and repair experience.
