The Department of Plant and Soil Sciences in the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Oklahoma State University invites applications for a tenure-track, 11-month faculty position on the main campus in Stillwater, OK in the area of weed science and ecophysiology.

Position Description

This position holds 75% Research and 25% Teaching responsibilities.

The successful candidate will develop a nationally recognized collaborative, and externally funded, impactful research program in weed genetics, ecophysiology, and sustainable management. This position will create improved understanding of weed-crop dynamics in response to seed and plant epigenetics within a changing climate. Research areas could include: improved understanding of crop competition under herbicide resistance scenarios; development of ecological approaches to adapting cropping communities to abiotic and biotic stresses; shifts in herbicide physiology in response to dynamic climate events; landscape scale modeling of weed population dynamics in response to climate change; developing alternative, ecologically-based and non-chemical approaches for herbicide-resistant weeds. Teaching expectations include an applied undergraduate course in weed science, in addition to other undergraduate and/or graduate courses addressing weed ecology, weed: crop interactions, herbicide physiology, or other areas of department need and the candidate’s expertise. They will also coach/advise the Collegiate Weed Science team and actively contribute to the scholarship of teaching and learning within the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. The successful candidate will explore and foster multidisciplinary collaborations internally and externally and engage with stakeholders and associated organizations. Success in pursuit of external funding for research activities is expected. The successful candidate will contribute to a positive work environment and collegiality among peers.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include: a Ph.D. in Weed Science, Crop Science, Ecophysiology or a closely related field. Applicants must have excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with scientific and non-scientific audiences both orally and in writing. Applicants must be committed to working effectively and collaboratively with faculty in the department and across the division. Applicants must have the ability to identify and aggressively pursue external funding and demonstrate the ability to publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals. Applicants must have evidence of teaching experience. Preferred qualifications include evidence of ability to secure external funding from competitive national funding sources, expertise in weed control monitoring, weed genetics, population dynamics, ecophysiology, herbicide physiology and/or crop: weed interactions. Preference will be given to those with evidence of teaching excellence.

Employment Conditions

This position is an 11-month, tenure track faculty position. It will be filled by March 2026, or as soon thereafter as an acceptable applicant is available. Salary is competitive and based on qualifications and experience. This is a benefits-eligible position.
