Position Summary
Position will promote interdisciplinary staff coordination as special education instructional services are provided to students with disabilities. To ensure that quality and equity in the provision of special education instructional services throughout the District is maintained.

Special Services Coordinator
Position Summary
Position will promote interdisciplinary staff coordination as special education instructional services are provided to students with disabilities. To ensure that quality and equity in the provision of special education instructional services throughout the District is maintained.
Essential Duties
- Cooperates with administrators in developing and implementing programs designed to improve student achievement.
- Monitors confidentiality procedures, child count, IEPs, and placement of students.
- Serves as a direct resource to special and regular teachers for special education instruction development regarding individual students.
- Participates in conferences and staffing for the purpose of placement, program planning, and mediation.
- Assists in selection, procurement, distribution, and maintenance of special education instructional materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Designs and/or coordinates curriculum and demonstrates teaching and behavior management techniques for teachers of specific needs students.
- Plans, coordinates, and facilitates inservice activities for special and regular teachers, related service personnel, administrators, and parents.
- Participates in the development of District policies and procedures.
- Works with all instructional and related services staff and supervisors to improve instructional quality and student achievement.
- Promotes the overall effectiveness of the organization by performing tasks and sharing responsibilities of other members of the Department during peak periods or when there is an overload of duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- AUTISM REQUIREMENTS: Certification in any area and completion of 32 clock hours of Special Education Services approved autism registry training (9801 Autism); Mild-Moderate Disabilities; Severe/Profound/Multiple Disabilities.
- DEAF-BLINDNESS REQUIREMENTS: Hearing Impaired; Deaf/Hard of Hearing; Visually Handicapped; Blind/Visual Impairment; and 9802 Deaf-Blindness.
- ID REQUIREMENTS: Mentally Handicapped; Mild-Moderate Disabilities; Severe-Profound/Multiple Disabilities.
- ED REQUIREMENTS: Emotionally Disturbed; Mild-Moderate Disabilities; Severe-Profound/Multiple Disabilities.
- LD REQUIREMENTS: Learning Disabilities; Mild-Moderate Disabilities; Severe-Profound/Multiple Disabilities.
- Five (5) years relevant experience.
- Must possess ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, demonstrate self-discipline and initiative, follow state and district guidelines.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding special education and related services.
- Ability to effectively communicate special education instructional information orally.
- Supervisory experience
- Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education at a 2:1 ratio. Therefore for every 1 year of college lacking, 2 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted.
- Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer
- Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties
- Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone
- Requires some stooping, bending, stretching and occasional lifting not to exceed 25 pounds
- Sitting for prolonged periods of time
- May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines
- Office duties will be performed in a well-lighted, climate controlled environment
