Position Summary: The Quality Inspector is responsible for performing advanced inspection, verification, and testing of incoming materials, sub-assemblies, and finished products to ensure compliance with company and customer standards. This role combines high-level quality control expertise with hands-on testing skills and may include assisting with material handling to support shipping, receiving, and inventory operations.
Quality Control & Testing Duties:
- Perform visual, dimensional, and functional inspections of incoming materials and outgoing products.
- Conduct advanced testing procedures, including:
- NDT Level II inspections (liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, etc.)
- Positive Material Identification (PMI) for metals
- Electrical testing per IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards
- Pressure and FAT testing of sub-assemblies and finished products
- Subsea and topside controls inspections and testing
- Interpret and verify compliance with blueprints, technical drawings, and product specifications.
- Identify, quarantine, and report non-conforming materials or products; maintain accurate inspection and test records.
- Assist in root cause analysis and implementation of corrective/preventive actions.
- Ensure all quality control procedures are followed and comply with industry standards (ISO, ASTM) and safety regulations (OSHA).
- Perform complex testing and assembly procedures as required by department leads or director.
- Use a wide variety of precision measuring instruments and gauges.
- Troubleshoot quality, product, or production issues and provide recommendations for resolution.
- Maintain knowledge of assembly, testing, and engineering performance specifications to ensure product integrity.
Material Handling & Support Duties (as needed):
- Safely move materials from receiving to storage and from storage to production areas using forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, and other equipment.
- Assist in loading and unloading delivery trucks and occasional deliveries.
- Support inventory management through cycle counts, physical inventory, and proper labeling/storage of materials.
- Assist in packaging and preparing finished goods for shipment.
- Perform routine checks and basic maintenance on material-handling equipment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
Minium Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED.
· 5 years of QC experience in oil & gas, energy, or manufacturing environments.
· Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and engineering specifications.
· Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
· Strong attention to detail, organizational, and time-management skills.
· Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and gauges.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical certifications, including but not limited to:
- NDT Level II (PT, MT)
- Positive Material Identification (PMI)
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 Electrical Testing
- Welding Fundamentals, Metallurgy, ASTM F2620 Heat Fusion, and other relevant certifications
- Experience inspecting and testing subsea and topside controls.
- Forklift and material handling experience.
- Knowledge of basic hydraulics, mechanical principles, and testing procedures.
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
- Work performed primarily in a shop or manufacturing environment.
- May be required to work at multiple workstations depending on inspection, testing, or production needs.
- Exposure to typical shop conditions, including noise, dust, odors, and fumes.
- Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting of materials or components, typically up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work at heights using standard 6–8 foot step ladders as needed.
- May operate material handling equipment, including hoists, positioners, pallet jacks, and forklifts, when assisting with moving or staging materials.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, and maneuver materials and equipment safely to complete inspection and testing tasks.
- Tasks may involve prolonged use of hands and arms for precision inspection, testing, and measuring activities.
