Ohio Wesleyan University, a selective, private, undergraduate liberal arts, residential institution founded in 1842 and located just 20 miles north of Columbus, is seeking candidates for the position of Head Preschool Teacher. This is an hourly, part-time position.
About the candidate:
The candidate should hold a bachelor's degree in early childhood education or elementary education and have at least two years of experience working with young children in a classroom setting. Supervisory experience is highly desirable. Prior to starting the position, the candidate must have current certification in First Aid, Infant/Child CPR, and the following ODJFS trainings: Communicable Disease, Child Abuse, New Staff Orientation. A successful background check is required.
About us:
The Early Childhood Center is a preschool/pre-k program for children three to five years old, serving approximately 100 community children/families. The ECC functions as a laboratory school for the university’s education department and other OWU departments. The program operates for nine months each year and follows the OWU academic calendar.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will require teaching one morning and one afternoon (part-time) Pre-k class held on MWF. The candidate will also supervise OWU college students during work study hours and field placement times.
- Plans, prepares and implements developmentally appropriate curriculum for three-to-five-year old’s
- Is committed to the social and academic development of each child
- Supervises college work study students/field placement students and completes evaluations at the end of each semester
- Works as a team with other ECC head teachers and the ECC director
- Interacts and communicates with parents, planning and implementing two parent teacher conferences per year
- Utilizes Brightwheel software to track attendance and communicate with parents
- Attends staff meetings and other center functions/events
- Possesses the physical capability to frequently lift or move weight as in lifting, carrying or holding children up to 60 pounds
- Is knowledgeable and committed to the overall vision and mission of Ohio Wesleyan University
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or a related field
- Current Ohio teaching license
- 3 years’ experience as a Lead Teacher, Teacher, or Assistant Teacher in an early childhood/elementary school setting
- Certification in First Aid, CPR, Communicable Disease and Child Abuse Mandated Reporting
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Demonstrated communication skills, including expressive (written and oral) as well as receptive skills
- Ability to use technology such as iPads, and other electronic educational platforms
- Demonstrated ability to independently as well as collaboratively make appropriate judgments and decisions, reason effectively, and solve problems
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility while working in an education setting
- Ability to effectively read, write and communicate the English language (bilingualism is a plus)
- Possesses the physical capability to frequently lift or move weight as in lifting, carrying or holding children up to 60 pounds, and repetitively bend, stretch and stoop, from the floor to standing
