What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operating Room Registered Nurse position at Ohio Surgery Center?
The OR RN provides professional nursing care before, during, and after surgical procedures in the operating room. The RN ensures patient safety, assists the surgical team, manages perioperative nursing responsibilities, and supports the efficient flow of surgical cases in an outpatient ambulatory setting.
Key Responsibilities
Provide preoperative nursing care: assess patients, review medical histories, verify consent, and prepare patients for surgery.
Assist in intraoperative patient care: monitor vital signs, manage IVs and medications, anticipate surgical team needs, and ensure aseptic technique.
Participate in surgical procedures, supporting the circulating RN or scrub nurse as required.
Monitor the patient’s status throughout surgery, report changes to the surgical/anesthesia team, and intervene as necessary for safety.
Perform postoperative care in the PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit) as needed, including monitoring recovery, managing pain, and providing patient education prior to discharge.
Maintain accurate documentation of patient care, operative details, and compliance with safety protocols.
Ensure operating room readiness: assist in room setup, supply preparation, and equipment checks.
Participate in surgical safety procedures, including time-outs, instrument counts, and adherence to infection control standards.
Provide patient and family support, answer questions, and explain postoperative instructions.
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and OR staff to promote efficient workflow and high-quality patient outcomes.
Education/Experience
Qualifications & Skills
Current RN license in Ohio.
Minimum of 1–2 years of operating room or perioperative nursing experience preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
Experience in outpatient surgery or ambulatory care is a plus.
