 Agency Overview

The school psychologist will support the Ohio Deaf and Blind Education Services, including the Ohio School for the Deaf and the Ohio State School for the Blind, and the Early Learning Center by using a variety of strategies including record review, observations, assessments, and team conferences to address student needs, to improve school systems and to produce an accurate assessment of  students’ abilities and challenges. This position includes the opportunity to grow professional expertise in serving students with visual impairments and students who are deaf or hard of hearing. We are committed to supporting and developing professional growth in these areas.

Job Description

This posting serves as notice for the 2026-2027 school year.

Identifies students’ service requirements:

  • Conducts psychological evaluations and/or assessments;
  • Administers, scores and interprets psychological tests and/or assessments; 
  • Reviews pre-admission or pre-treatment dates and documentation from local school districts;
  • Consults with students, staff and families regarding effective teaching strategies and techniques to manage student behavior and crises.

Assists administrators in students’ personal, behavioral, and social development:

  • Conducts interviews and writes evaluation reports for school-aged students with emotional or behavior problems;
  • Reviews and evaluates behavior plans;
  • Provides psychological intervention treatment;
  • Serves as advisor on psychological matters (e.g., IEP, ETR, FBA/BIP);
  • Participates, facilitates and documents the treatment review team process;
  • Conducts student counseling and follows upon treatment;
  • Administers and interprets age-appropriate assessments for children with disabilities;
  • Reviews and advises administration on admission, placement, behavior and dismissal issues;
  • Administers and/or advises administration on threat assessments as needed.

Protects student's confidentiality:

  • Maintains and monitors confidential information process;
  • Reports suspected abuse or neglect to law enforcement authorities and superintendent;
  • Follows all FERPA and HIPAA requirements related to student information.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in school psychology from a National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) approved college or university;
  • Must maintain Pupil Services License - School Psychologist.

     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in assessment and educational planning for students with Blindness or Visual Impairments (BVI), Deaf (D), Hard of Hearing (HOH), Deafblind (DB), Multiple Disabilities (MD) and spectrum disabilities (ASD);
  • Prior experience and/or knowledge of regulations pertaining to IEP requirements and social/emotional programming;
  • Receptive and expressive skills in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or an interest in gaining sign skills;
  • Willingness to learn about accessibility tools to support access for students with low vision or blindness.
