Position: Grounds Technician
Status: Full time, seasonal
Location: Newark Earthworks and Flint Ridge Nature Preserve, Heath/Hebron/Newark, Ohio
Compensation: $19/hour plus full benefits package
Summary
The Grounds Technician is responsible for maintaining the aesthetic and functional quality of outdoor spaces. This role involves performing a variety of tasks to ensure that grounds are well-kept, safe, and visually appealing. The technician will work on landscaping, lawn care, and general maintenance duties, ensuring that all outdoor areas are clean and properly maintained.
This position is a full time (40 hours a week) seasonal position. Work will be conducted between the months of May through October. Primarily responsibilities will be geared toward landscape maintenance which include clearing litter and sticks, mowing grass, and assistant in projects as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor of the Newark Earthworks.
Essential Functions
High School Diploma PLUS one to three years relevant working experience OR Post-secondary degree or technical certification from an accredited institution in a relevant field
Desired Skills & Experience
Inside and outside in all weather conditions, Frequent exposure to dust, dirt, wet working areas, biohazards, chemicals, noxious fumes and odors. Requires working some evenings, weekends, and holidays as dictated by weather and site events. Overtime work is occasionally required.

Essential Functions
- Perform general groundskeeping and landscape duties including mowing, trimming, edging, and weeding, and maintaining lawns and flowerbeds.
- Aid in tree-work including trimming, pruning, chipping, and clean-up of fall tees and large limbs.
- As directed by the Maintenance Supervisor, work alongside Statewide Maintenance crew and other maintenance and grounds technicians in the Historic Site System to complete large projects.
- Clean and maintain tools; alert Maintenance Supervisor when service and repair equipment including tractors, mowers, automotive stock, etc. is required.
- Install and remove attachments on equipment as needed to perform tasks
- Remove debris including trash, sticks, and leaves from walkways, parking lots, and other designated areas; remove garbage from receptacles
- Maintain parking lots, roads, and sidewalks on property
- Follow all safety rules and protocols for operating equipment
- Assist with the setup and teardown of indoor and outdoor events onsite
- Maintain a friendly demeanor when approached by visitors when working on site.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Comfortable communicating with staff and the public.
- Knowledge of proper operation and safety procedures for equipment necessary to perform essential functions such as mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, and other commercial landscape and maintenance equipment
- Understanding of safe handling and usage of materials necessary to perform essential functions of position including commercial-grade cleaning and sanitizing solutions, herbicides, and pesticides
- Valid Driver's License.
- Can locate and use resources to get things done, uses resources effectively and efficiently, and arranges information in a useful manner
- Assumes accountability of role and responsibilities; anticipates the needs of others
- Able to process information in a consistent manner, simultaneously displaying adaptability when necessary
- Able to carry out duties assigned by supervisor
- Able to identify and resolve issues efficiently and effectively
