Position: Facilities & Grounds Technician
Status: Full time, permanent
Location: Fort Ancient Earthworks & Nature Preserve, Oregonia, OH
Compensation: $18/hour plus full benefits package
Summary:
Responsible for maintaining historic, natural, or prehistoric site property with an emphasis on carrying out a skilled trade.
Essential Functions:
- Carries out the duties specific to a skilled trade (i.e. carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, horticulture, etc.).
- May complete routine building maintenance and custodial work such as cleaning, washing windows, and mopping floors; assists maintenance staff in performing minor building repairs; participates in scraping, sanding and painting projects.
- May perform grounds maintenance duties such as mowing, weeding, and general grass and weed management; plants vegetative material and applies herbicide and insecticides to lawns, shrubs, and trees; participates in grounds and forest management activities and operates associated maintenance equipment.
- May operate heavy machinery and/or maintain mowing equipment, tractors, trucks, snow blowers and other equipment used in the maintenance and operation of the historic site.
- May participate in general site maintenance work and opening and closing procedures.
- Maintain maintenance records and prepare monthly reports.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
- Associate's degree in horticulture, forestry, construction trade, or equivalent plus minimum two years of experience in facilities maintenance
- Must hold a valid Ohio driver's license and be able to travel extensively within the state of Ohio.
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Knowledge of building structures and systems.
- Understanding of safety standards and experience in practice.
- Experience maintaining equipment and vehicles in good working order.
- Experience in the application of historic preservation standards in constructed projects.
Required Competencies:
- Skill to operate hand tools, power tools, a variety of custodial equipment and machines, and mowing equipment
- Knowledge of plumbing HVAC and electrical work helpful.
- May require herbicide and chemical licensure and first aid training.
- Self-directed and flexible.
- Resourcefulness and initiative.
- Problem solving and decision making.
- Effective organizational skills.
- Able to handle multiple tasks.
Work Environment:
Work is performed outside in all weather conditions. Frequent exposure to dust, dirt, water and wet working areas. Frequent exposure to chemical and noxious fumes and odors. Involves frequent contact with the staff and public. Exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards. Occasional evening and weekend work.

- Must be able to stand, stoop, crouch, twist, push and lift for brief or extended periods.

- Must be able to lift, carry, move, or position items to weigh up to or more than 75 pounds.
- Must be able to lift 80 pounds consistently and carry over 25 feet of various surfaces.
- Must be able to lift and lower 25 pounds above shoulder level.
