What We Need YOU To Do
Ohio EPA wants you to become the newest environmental specialist in the Division of Drinking and Ground Waters (DDAGW) at our Central Office in Columbus, Ohio.
Safe drinking water is the destination. Data directs us there.
We’re looking for a motivated team player who’s eager to support our work to protect Ohio’s drinking water. As an environmental specialist, you’ll work in our Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS) application to upload and manage the operational data, chemical analyses, inventory, and survey information reported by public water systems (PWS).
You’ll work closely with laboratories and PWSs to troubleshoot reporting issues and keep sample data and reports accurate and complete. You’ll also be a go-to resource for users of SDWIS and the Safe Water Information Field Tool (SWIFT) submittals.
You’ll represent DDAGW on the Facility Reconciliation Workgroup (FROG) to ensure alignment of core data and assist with quality assurance and control activities for the Lead and Copper Program—especially reviewing PWS’ required Lead Consumer Notice verifications and public notices.

- Manage public drinking water data in the Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS).
- Ensure accuracy of lab and water system data and troubleshoot reporting issues.
- Support users of SDWIS and the SWIFT reporting tool.
- Assist with data alignment and quality assurance with DDAGW workgroups and programs.
- 12 mos. exp. as Environmental Specialist 1, 85861.
- OR 4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in position involving engineering or chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, geology or hydrogeology &/or other comparable physical or health science field &/or mathematics which included responsibility for conducting compliance monitoring surveys &/or inspections/reviews or investigations, or review of permit applications relative to oil & gas well operations or injection, annular disposal & saltwater injection wells & enhanced recovery projects or coal mining, or solid/hazardous waste sites or industrial & municipal wastewater dischargers, or collecting, compiling & preparing various environmental assessments, evaluations, reports & related documents. Training & experience must be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
- OR baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, earth science &/or urban & regional planning, geology or other comparable physical or health science fields, with training to be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
