This position works under general direction and requires thorough knowledge of penal industries policies and procedures and management:
- Implements and revises policy and procedures to comply with institutional or departmental policy and procedures to maintain security, discipline, and control in penal industries shop.
- Writes post orders, directs, and manages daily operations of assigned penal industries shop (e.g., schedules production in accordance with customer requirements and inventory levels, directs and oversees all purchasing, makes necessary priority changes to meet changes in production).
- Directs all production changes necessary to meet institutional and/or customer demands that result from lockdowns, fog counts and holiday schedules.
- Schedules and approves overtime
- Creates bill of materials/routers for all standard and non-standard items.
- Oversees and directs design of new prototypes, updates routers/BOM’s as needed.
- Reviews and approves all documents related to work status of inmates assigned to workshop
- Reviews and approves disciplinary and incident reports.
- Implements and directs training of staff and inmate workers assigned to penal industries shop
- Supervises penal workshop specialists and/or penal workshop superintendents.
- Maintains all necessary records for the operation (e.g., earned credit, inmate payroll, FAMS, tool/chemicals, inspections)
- Conducts monthly and annual inventory.
- Submits reposts as directed.
- Knowledge and experience with tools and equipment related to assigned OPI shop.
- Directs and maintains use of and/or operates ERP computer system (e.g., posts customer orders, job materials and labor, inventory receipts, and issues).
- Ensures maintenance of accurate inventories, schedules warehouse transfers and trucking.
- Monitors all transactions for packing slips, sales orders and invoices for Ohio Penal Industries and private freight carriers
- Prepares and submits reports as required.
- Meets with customers for potential special projects related production orders (e.g., special sizes, color and configurations).
- Manages and directs special projects (e.g., enters job estimates, makes necessary changes in floor production to accommodate special projects, enters job estimates).
- Attends meetings, training and participates on committees as assigned and/or required.
- Maintains ACA files.
- Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
