What You'll Do At DBH

  • Perform higher level police officer duties in patrolling grounds/buildings, and protect lives of patients, employees & visitors
  • Enforce Ohio Revised Code, Administrative Rules & Hospital Policies
  • Perform security & special service functions, provide assistance to Nursing Service Department, respond to psychiatric, medical & emergency calls
  • Conduct investigations under the direction of the Police Lieutenant
  • Arrest criminal violators
  • Perform routine administrative duties related to police work

This is an hourly position covered by the State of Ohio Unit 2 bargaining unit (union), with a pay range of 10 on the Unit 2 Pay Range Schedule. Normal working hours are VARIOUS. This position is located within our Northwest Ohio Behavioral Healthcare location, located at 930 S Detroit Ave, Toledo, OH 43614.

Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after one year of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.

Position Qualifications

Formal education in arithmetic that includes fractions, decimals & percentages & in reading & writing English vocabulary; valid driver's license. Probationary period is one year.

OR

Possession of certificate having successfully completed approved basic peace officer training program or completion of 20 yrs. active duty as peace officer per Section 109.78 (D) of Ohio revised code for developmental disabilities & mental health facility employees. Probationary period is one year. Note: Applicant must be able to successfully perform Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Program (OPOTC) Fitness Testing Entry Standards for New Recruits.
