- Under direction of the Chief of Psychiatry of the Bureau of Behavioral Health Services, coordinate and direct mental health clinical services for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, and act as the department’s psychiatric expert.
- Responsible for providing clinical supervision and leadership for psychiatrists and psychiatric services as related to all ODRC institutions
- Assist in developing policies, procedures, and function administratively to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations; contributes medical opinion and clinical recommendations to the DRC Medical Director concerning staffing, quality of service and other topics with clinical relevance
- Represents DRC in matters concerning psychiatric issues and ensures that decisions made comply with current accepted medical practices and Ohio Department of Behavioral Health standards
- Provides liaison between various non-medical staff and departments with the clinical aspects of the Bureau of Behavioral Health Services.
- Assists in reviewing prescription practices for appropriateness, approve/deny non-formulary medication and approve/deny involuntary medication hearing appeals; resolves clinical disputes between psychiatrists
- Responsible for the oversight of the on-call psychiatry system and provide backup if necessary
- Provides psychiatric service to institution in situations where a critical disruption in care exists, as directed by the Chief of Psychiatry and/or the Bureau of Behavioral Health Services.
- Responsible for reviewing and approving OSP referrals.
- Participates on various committees
- Acts as a member of the Bureau of Behavioral Health Services Continuous Quality Improvement Committee, OCF governing body, ODRC and State of Ohio Pharmacy Therapeutic Committees
- Attends and participates in advisory councils, inter-agency committees planning groups, and task force groups, as needed
- Responsible for representing the ODRC with other government departments as well as the general public.
- Participates in advanced level provider recruitment and hiring including screening applicants, interviewing, hiring, orientation and oversight
- Participates in continuous quality improvement activities including collaborative reviews of Advance Practice Nurse-Behavioral Health and peer reviews of psychiatrists as well as morbidity and mortality reviews.
- Attend seminars, professional meetings and review relevant literature to keep current with medical and psychiatric advancements, as well as remaining current with the licensure and psychiatric board requirements.
- Attends meetings, trainings and conferences and may be required to give presentations and conduct training and respond both verbally and in writing to questions and concerns
- Works on special projects and/or committees as assigned and performs other duties as assigned.
- Unclassified Position pursuant to OAC 5120.382.
