Summary/Objective
The Fabrication Lead is a working lead position responsible for performing fabrication and welding duties while also providing guidance and support to a team of fabricators. This role ensures jobs are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with ASME and OSHA standards. The Fabrication Lead works alongside the crew, serves as a mentor for less experienced employees, and acts as the first point of contact for task direction and quality checks.
Essential Functions

- Perform fabrication, layout, and welding tasks, including fitting, clamping, tack-welding, grinding, and assembly in accordance with blueprints and specifications.
- Lead by example on the shop floor, demonstrating proper welding and fitting techniques and safe work practices.
- Provide day-to-day guidance and mentoring to assigned fabricators and welders, ensuring productivity and adherence to company standards.
- Assist in coordinating workflow and prioritizing daily tasks to meet production schedules.
- Inspect workpieces for accuracy and conformance to drawings, verifying weld quality meets ASME and OGI requirements.
- Train and coach new or less experienced employees on tools, equipment, and processes.
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other equipment safely to support fabrication work.
- Ensure accurate completion of production documentation, quality records, and job hours.
- Report equipment issues, safety concerns, and workflow challenges to the Fabrication Foreman or Production Manager.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment and comply with all safety rules and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisor Responsibility
This position does not have formal supervisory authority but provides day-to-day direction, training, and mentoring to assigned fabrication employees under the oversight of the Fabrication Foreman and Production Manager.
Work Environment
This position operates in a non-temperature-controlled fabrication shop with exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, and metal particles. Employees are required to wear PPE, including hearing protection, safety glasses with side shields, welding hoods, grinding shields, safety harnesses when applicable, and OSHA-compliant safety boots/shoes.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Regularly required to stand for long periods of time, walk, reach, bend, kneel, and stoop.
- Must be able to ascend/descend ladders and lift/move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Standard hours are Friday through Sunday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Additional hours may be required to meet workload and deadlines. You will be scheduled for 36 hours but PAID for 40 hours.
Travel
No travel is required for this position.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- 3–5 years of fabrication and welding experience in a shop environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and engineering specifications.
- Strong knowledge of ASME quality control procedures.
- Proficiency in welding processes including GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), FCAW (Fluxcore), and SMAW (Stick).
- Demonstrated ability to train or mentor less experienced employees.
- Preferred Education and Experience
- 2-year technical degree or vocational certificate in welding or fabrication.
- Previous experience in a lead or mentoring role.
