Role Description
This is a full-time position for an Assistant Public Defender based on-site in Statesboro, GA. The Assistant Public Defender will represent clients in criminal cases and advocate on their behalf in the courtroom. Responsibilities include preparing legal documents, conducting legal research, appearing in court hearings, and offering legal assistance to those unable to afford private counsel. Collaboration with other legal professionals to ensure effective defense strategies will be a key part of the role.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge and application of Law, with expertise in Criminal Law and Criminal Defense
- Experience with Courts and legal proceedings, including presenting cases in court
- Proficiency in providing Legal Assistance, including drafting legal documents and offering counsel
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple cases while adhering to deadlines
- Possession of a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Active membership in the State Bar of Georgia and licensure to practice law in Georgia
- Commitment to upholding the rights of individuals in the justice system
- Experience in criminal litigation or defense work is preferred
