Job Title:  High School Head Boys Basketball Coach

Location:  Ogden Community Schools, Ogden, IA

Position Overview

Ogden High School seeks a passionate, dedicated, student-centered Head Boys Basketball Coach to lead the Bulldog program. The coach will build a competitive, character-driven culture grounded in character, accountability, and pride while fostering strong relationships with student-athletes, families, staff, and the community.

As the leader of the high school program, the Head Coach will oversee and align the entire 7–12 boys basketball system to ensure long-term growth and sustainability.

Primary Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Development

• Develop and communicate a clear vision for the Bulldogs boys basketball program.
• Oversee all aspects of the 7–12 boys basketball program, including alignment of philosophy and skill development.
• Organize and conduct effective practices that emphasize fundamentals, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
• Coordinate off-season workouts, open gyms, camps, and strength/conditioning opportunities in compliance with state regulations.
• Foster multi-sport participation while building a competitive basketball culture.

Game & Team Management

• Prepare the team for competition through scouting, film study, and strategic planning.
• Model professionalism and sportsmanship at all times.
• Maintain high standards for conduct, academics, and effort.
• Supervise assistant coaches and staff.

Student-Athlete Development

• Promote academic achievement and character development.
• Build positive, mentoring relationships with student-athletes.
• Support leadership development within the program.
• Monitor eligibility and academic progress in coordination with school administration.

Communication & Community Engagement

• Maintain consistent and professional communication with players, parents, administration, and media.
• Represent Ogden Community School District in a positive manner at all times.
• Engage youth programs and collaborate with community coaches to strengthen the Bulldog pipeline.
• Support and promote youth basketball camps and community events.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Create practice schedules and work in collaboration with the Activities Director regarding facilities usage.
• Maintain inventory and oversee equipment needs.
• Adhere to district, conference, and Iowa High School Athletic Association regulations.
• Complete required certifications and professional development.

Qualifications

• Valid Iowa coaching authorization (or ability to obtain).
• Previous coaching/playing experience preferred.
• Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.
• Commitment to educational athletics and character-based coaching.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships in a small-school environment.

Preferred Traits

• Demonstrated ability to build a program at multiple levels (youth through varsity).
• Commitment to developing fundamental skills and teaching the game.
• Passion for mentoring young men beyond the basketball court.

FLSA Status:

Exempt.
