Position Overview:
Designs, fabricates, and installs commercial signs using computer-aided graphics and related sign equipment. This is highly technical and independent work in the design and preparation of printed, drawn, and photographed materials for duplication. An employee allocated to this class of work performs highly independent technical duties and participates in the reproduction of graphic materials and installation of the final work product. Work is performed independently under the general direction of an administrative superior and/or Department Supervisor.

Subject to early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays at times, depending upon the project or workload.
Salary: Commensurate experience, based on 26 pay periods.
Physical Demands And Environmental Exposure
Most assignments will be performed in an office, meeting, or operations command center environment, but some field work may be required. May be required to work extended work hours during activation of disaster recovery operations for an unspecified length of time (varies based on the extent of the event).
This position requires bending, stooping, and lifting to 25 lbs., frequent walking, standing, sitting, reaching, and ascending/descending stairs. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Job Duties
- Orders and maintains inventory of sign shop supplies and equipment.
- Schedules for maintenance of equipment.
- Meets with County personnel and tenants to coordinate design and installation of interior and exterior signs.
- Coordinates with vendors for the purchase and installation of specialty signs.
- Fabricates and installs signs using various commercial media, paint, tape, and engraving.
- Ensures installation of the final work product.
- Will be required to drive a personal or county vehicle to various work sites.
- Inspects work in progress and finished materials to see that quality, quantity, and printability standards are being complied with.
- Ensures the preparation of materials for reproduction.
- Maintains records and files of work performed, and computes costs of reproduction jobs.
- Performs all phases of graphics work, including plate making, as well as the design, layout, arrangement, and sketching of materials for reproduction.
- Maintains PC-based computer-aided design/manufacturing systems for sign fabrication, which include various software and database programs, scanners, digitizing tablets, printers and plotters, and special fonts and text for manufacturing signage.
- Maintains records of orders and inventory, and follows up with vendors on shipment and delivery. The design shop performs additional functions incidental to office activities.
- Participates in Harris County During Disaster Recovery Efforts as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- General Educational Development (GED) or High School Diploma.
- Some Design or manufacturing experience with graphics and signs.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License and a good driving record.
- Visual Ideation/ Creativity.
- Typography.
- Design Software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.).
- Color Theory.
- Web Design/Basic HTML & CSS; and
- Layout/Conversion Optimization.

- Participate in the classification process of departmental staff based on MEF responsibilities.
- Be available for temporary deployment to an alternative work location, role, or telework assignment during emergency events.
- Confirm work assignments with their supervisor prior to reporting to any worksite during such events.
- Remain flexible in assuming alternative duties as directed to support County operations continuity.
