Job Description The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County (“BXDA”) is charged with the twin goals of ensuring public safety and striving for equal justice for the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community. By “Pursuing Justice with Integrity,” the BXDA places a focus on assistance for crime victims while simultaneously ensuring fairness to defendants. Moreover, the BXDA aims to balance the need to seek appropriate punishment for certain crimes while recognizing when punitive measures do not adequately advance justice. By recognizing these significant distinctions and acting accordingly, BXDA has established a standard of excellence in the representation of the Bronx community at large, which continues to grow stronger every day. The Bronx County District Attorney’s Office has an opening for a Trial Preparation Assistant to support our Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) with all aspects of investigations and trial preparation in the Special Victims Division. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Following up on subpoenas and outstanding NYPD Discovery Requests. Draft and serve Orders to Produce, Writs of Habeas Corpus, and Motions. Pick up/drop off status sheets to Court/Obtain Certified Documents. Perform field work, including traveling to other agencies, hospitals, and courts Requesting and retrieving evidence for trial/submit requests for 911/Radio runs (ICAD). Prepare letters and email Orders of Protection to witnesses, defense counsel, and legal staff daily. Provide backup coverage for DVM Court Clerk, including, WEBDV database. Provide backup coverage for DVCU Expeditors. Greet, screen, and log in all visitors and cover front desk reception, as needed. Requesting and retrieving evidence for trial Submit requests for 911/Radio runs (ICAD). Must have a valid NYS Driver's License with at least 2 years experience. Assist with other bureau tasks and perform all other duties as assigned. COMMUNITY ASSISTANT - 56056 Minimum Qualifications 1. There are no formal education or experience requirements for this position. However, the ability to understand and carry out simple instructions is required. 2. Candidates must be able to understand and be understood in English. Preferred Skills - An Associate’s degree or a High School diploma/GED and a minimum of two (2) years working experience in a law firm, governmental agency, civic or community organization. - A valid New York State driver’s license with a minimum of two (2) years of driving experience is required and must be maintained for the duration of employment. - Familiarity and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. - Excellent written and oral communication skills. - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. - Familiarity with general court services preferred. - Ability to communicate in a welcoming and professional manner. - Excellent customer service skills Public Service Loan Forgiveness As a prospective employee of the City of New York, you may be eligible for federal loan forgiveness programs and state repayment assistance programs.
