What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mental Health Therapist position at Office of Shared Administration (WV)?
Forensic Competency Therapist provides factual and rational therapy techniques to forensic patients in jail based or (outpatient) community settings. Responsibilities to include but not limited to identifying and assessing each patient’s illness/behavior/treatment needs; assist with treatment planning in coordination with Department of Corrections Medical/Psychiatric provider or community mental health centers and assist patients with obtaining competency to move forward with the courts.
This position will work remotely and independently in a regional jail(s) setting for ForensicServices, with travel requirements possible.
Provide therapy services and education within the assigned jail(s) to IST-R (restorable) patients on the waitlist for competency restoration services at Sharpe Hospital.
Communicate with the Department of Corrections (DOC) and the contracted providers for
medical and psychiatric services. Document on all services provided within the record(s).
Participate in circuit court hearings for patients to provide testimony of services provided. This position will be a liaison for Forensic Services.

Education: | Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or Education from an accredited college or university. |
Experience: | One (1) year full-time or equivalent part-time working in the fields of mental illness, substance abuse, therapy, psychology, or counseling. Volunteer experience may be considered for experience. |
Substitution Information:Successful completion of graduate coursework toward a Ph.D. in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or Education, or completion of the degree, may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis as outlined in the Office of Shared Administration’s Equivalency Chart.
