Position Overview
The Art Instructor will support the Valor Point Residential Rehabilitation Program, a therapeutic environment serving Veterans recovering from homelessness, PTSD, and substance use disorders. The instructor will lead structured, hands-on art classes designed to promote creative expression, build confidence, and provide positive outlets for free time. This role focuses on teaching practical artistic techniques, introducing various artistic media, and fostering a supportive, trauma-informed environment that encourages personal growth and wellness through artmaking.

Position Overview
The Art Instructor will support the Valor Point Residential Rehabilitation Program, a therapeutic environment serving Veterans recovering from homelessness, PTSD, and substance use disorders. The instructor will lead structured, hands-on art classes designed to promote creative expression, build confidence, and provide positive outlets for free time. This role focuses on teaching practical artistic techniques, introducing various artistic media, and fostering a supportive, trauma-informed environment that encourages personal growth and wellness through artmaking.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver 12 unique art mediums over a 12-month period (each medium taught in a 4-week block).
- Provide instruction to classes of up to six Veterans per cycle.
- Develop and facilitate engaging, hands-on art projects that Veterans can complete and keep.
- Introduce each medium with a brief overview of history, concepts, or foundational techniques.
- Demonstrate processes, tools, and safe material use relevant to each medium.
- Adapt instruction to meet varying skill levels and therapeutic needs.
- Support Veterans through one-on-one guidance during class sessions.
- Monitor and maintain a safe, respectful, and encouraging environment.
- Coordinate with Valor Point staff for scheduling, student participation, and special considerations.
- Ensure all materials are appropriately set up, stored, and accounted for between sessions.
- Maintain professionalism and effective communication with staff and participants.

- Demonstrated experience teaching or practicing multiple visual art mediums.
- Prior classroom, studio, or workshop instruction experience (clinical, community, or veteran-focused settings preferred).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to provide trauma-informed, patient-centered instruction.
- Ability to speak, understand, and follow instructions in English.
- Knowledge of safe use of art materials and tools.
- Experience working with Veterans or vulnerable populations.
- Background in art therapy, community arts education, or recreational therapy.
- Familiarity with adaptive teaching strategies for individuals with physical or psychological limitations.
- Experience teaching small-group instruction in mixed-skill environments.
- Classes will be held on-site at Valor Point, located within the Rocky Mountain Regional VAMC campus.
- The classes will be 2 hours in length once a week on a Wednesday from 3-5pm for 4 weeks. To not include weekends and holidays.
- Some projects may span multiple weeks depending on medium and complexity.
