Job Summary
OEG Building Materials, a steel manufacturing company, is seeking an experienced Forklift Mechanic to inspect, maintain, and repair propane and diesel-powered forklifts. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills, a solid understanding of safety standards, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on propane and diesel forklifts
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fuel system issues
- Perform routine inspections to ensure equipment is safe and operational
- Replace or repair engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, and other components
- Maintain accurate service and maintenance records
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards
- Respond to equipment breakdowns in a timely manner to minimize downtime
- Communicate repair needs and recommendations clearly with management
- Proven experience as a forklift mechanic or heavy equipment mechanic
- Hands-on experience with propane and diesel forklifts (required)
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals and schematics
- Valid driver’s license (forklift certification a plus)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a warehouse or outdoor environment
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Trade school or technical certification in mechanical repair
- Experience with multiple forklift brands
- Welding or fabrication experience a plus
- Warehouse/industrial setting
- Full-time (schedule may vary based on operational needs)
- Pay: $25.00 - $32.00 per hour (non-exempt)
