The Warehouse Manager leads teams, drives continuous improvement, and ensures operational excellence to meet client requirements.
What You’ll Do
Operational Leadership
- Oversee end-to-end warehouse operations, including shipping, receiving, loading/unloading, staging, and storage.
- Lead, coach, and develop warehouse staff; ensure effective staffing, onboarding, training, performance management, and succession planning.
- Drive execution of key performance indicators (KPIs) related to productivity, service, quality, and cost.
- Manage operating expenses, including labor planning, scheduling, overtime control, and discretionary spending.
- Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and standardized processes.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, root cause analysis, standard work) to enhance operational performance.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve dock and warehouse productivity.
- Partner closely with Human Resources and Talent Acquisition to manage full-cycle recruitment, including candidate selection and onboarding.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Claims, Customer Service, Pricing, Safety, HR, Finance, and Sales to support service delivery and business growth.
- Oversee timekeeping and workforce management, including timecard approvals, attendance monitoring, PTO management, and shift scheduling.
- Serve as a certified Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Trainer, delivering OSHA-compliant training for forklift and material handling equipment operators.
- Conduct classroom and hands-on instruction to ensure safe equipment operation.
- Evaluate operator competency and issue certifications as appropriate
- Provide refresher training following incidents, near misses, or observed unsafe behaviors
- Maintain training records and ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards
- Promote and maintain a “safety-first” culture, ensuring full compliance with OSHA and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits, facility inspections, and operational walkthroughs to proactively identify and mitigate risks.
- Lead incident reporting, investigations, and root cause analysis; ensure timely implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor and drive safety performance metrics (e.g., TRIR, near-misses, corrective actions), holding teams accountable for results.
- Partner with Safety teams to ensure compliance across equipment operation, dock safety, and employee working conditions.
- Ensure proper maintenance, inspection, and documentation of warehouse equipment, including forklifts and material handling equipment.
- Lead regular safety meetings, training sessions, and awareness initiatives to reinforce safe work practices.
- Ensure compliance with equipment preventive maintenance schedules and all regulatory inspection requirements.
- Enforce safe operating practices in all environmental and weather conditions.
- Ensure compliance with customer requirements, freight handling standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, TSA, C-TPAT, as applicable).
- Maintain accurate inventory control through effective use of WMS and cycle count programs.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, claims, and service issues.
- Ensure proper cargo handling, labeling, and documentation in accordance with freight forwarding standards.
- Maintain high levels of accuracy and quality across all warehouse processes.
- Support special projects, system implementations, and operational initiatives as assigned.
- Perform other duties as required to support business objectives.
- 5 years of experience in logistics, freight forwarding, or 3PL operations, preferably within a terminal, distribution center, or cross-dock environment.
- 2 years of leadership experience supervising teams in a warehouse, logistics, or operations setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will also be considered.
- Strong leadership and team development skills with the ability to drive engagement, accountability, and performance.
- Proven ability to implement process improvements and deliver measurable operational results.
- Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Working knowledge of DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations, 49 CFR, OSHA PIT regulations, and general workplace safety requirements.
- Ability to obtain and maintain forklift certification; experience evaluating or certifying operator proficiency is a plus.
- Solid understanding of warehouse safety practices, compliance requirements, and operational best practices.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to calculate rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret operational data.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with evolving processes.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to interpret written, verbal, and technical instructions and translate them into actionable processes.
- Additional certifications, such as OSHA or Lean/Six Sigma, are a plus.
