Job description

*Summary of Responsibilities
*Responsible for efficient and friendly admission of patients into the clinic, for maintaining patient charts and other duties as directed by the Practice Manager, for coordinating all telephone traffic for the clinic and for making and scheduling procedure appointments for patients in an efficient and timely manner.

List of Responsibilities/Duties

  • Plans, organizes and develops the reception and scheduling areas to include logs and scheduling records.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records and files.
  • Coordinates insurance and financial aspects of patient care with the appropriate Practice business office staff and scheduling staff.
  • Schedules procedures.
  • Coordinates specific scheduling request for time and equipment with the clinical doctors.
  • Ascertains privileges of scheduling physicians.
  • Prints and distributes procedure schedules.
  • Greets/admits patients on their appointment day.
  • Answers the phone.
  • Prepares patient charts with appropriate forms.
  • Collects fees when appropriate.
  • Assists patients with consents.
  • Verifies appropriate lab and H&P on chart.
  • Keeps family posted on patient condition.
  • Demonstrates ability to operate and maintain copy machine, adding machine, postal meter and keyboard.
  • Assists in keeping waiting room neat..
  • Maintains stock of office supplies.
  • Participates in safety and performance improvement programs as directed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Education Requirements

  • High school graduate preferred.

Minimum Background Requirements

  • Read, write, communicate and present a neat professional appearance.
  • Create a good impression as a friendly, empathetic, composed and efficient individual, as this position has the first contact — phone or face to face — with the patient.
  • Demonstrate reliability, a pleasant attitude and a willingness to perform the duties as required.
  • Maintain and comply with patient confidentiality and integrity policy on all matters.

Physical Demands

  • Work is performed in a temperature-controlled environment.
  • Work may be stressful at times.
  • Contact involves dealing with sometimes angry and upset staff, physicians and patients.
  • Must be able to use visually oriented office equipment.
  • Must be able to communicate person to person and via telephone.
  • Must be able to enter keyboard data, dial the phone and use other office equipment.
  • Must be able to lift 15 lbs. from floor to waist on a periodic basis.
  • Must be able to push, pull, bend and reach.
  • Must have physical and mental stamina to work rapidly and with accuracy over long periods of time.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.
  • Must be drug free.

May be exposed to the following hazards: blood-borne pathogens, communicable diseases, chemicals, steam, pressurized cylinders, chard objects and moving parts of equipment.

Provided safety equipment includes gloves, glasses, protective gowns, hair restraints, masks, fire extinguisher, sharps containers and biohazard disposal.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
