Job Summary
As a Substitute Custodian, you’ll help keep facilities clean, safe, and ready for daily use. You’ll step in where needed, complete routine custodial tasks, and support basic facilities maintenance. This role suits someone who works carefully, adapts to changing assignments, and takes pride in creating welcoming spaces.
Schedule: As needed basis
Start Time: 3:30 p.m.
Hours: Approximately 3–4 hours per shift, depending on the time needed to complete assigned duties
Responsibilities
- Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces.
- Clean and disinfect restrooms, classrooms, offices, hallways, and other common areas.
- Empty trash and recycling bins and ensure proper disposal.
- Monitor and report any maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel, such as broken equipment, leaks, or safety hazards.
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and request additional supplies as needed.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Buildings & Grounds Supervisor or school administration.
Qualifications
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently.
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with custodial work.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks efficiently.
- Previous custodial experience is helpful but not required.
- Must successfully complete required background checks.
Skills
- Required: Ability to perform cleaning duties, follow safety protocols, and handle cleaning equipment and chemical agents responsibly.
- Helpful experience: Janitorial, custodial.
- Able to perform manual handling and heavy lifting while using safe lifting practices.
- Attention to sanitation and detail is valued.
