What are the responsibilities and job description for the Phlebotomist PRN position at Oceans Healthcare?
The Lab Coordinator / Phlebotomist manages all aspects of patient lab draws. They support the nursing staff by maintaining the lab and managing aspects of required lab draws for patients. They prepare all lab draws to be sent out to third party Lab for processing.
Essential Functions:
- Certified in phlebotomy and completes patient lab draws when needed.
- Oversee the daily operation so the laboratory, ensuring all lab draws and activities comply with safety regulations and quality standards, including stat lab times and consistency.
- Responsible for the collection, processing and distribution to appropriate labs for processing of all required lab draws.
- Oversee staff functions regarding lab procedures, lab training and lab scheduling.
- Provide input on staff evaluations regarding phlebotomy duties.
- Implement and maintain quality control and assurance programs to meet internal and external requirements and to improve laboratory efficiency.
- Maintain lab equipment and supplies monthly within budgetary guidelines and limits.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in laboratory processes and equipment to ensure seamless lab operations and functionality.
- Train new providers on lab processes and procedures.
- Review and approve laboratory reports and documentation, ensuring accuracy, completeness and compliance with all regulatory standards.
- Uploads and enters all lab samples from all non-WellSky third parties.
- Responsible for ordering all lab supplies, maintaining dated items in compliance with TJC Standards.
Requirements
Education / Experience:
- HS Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Certification in Phlebotomy preferred
Skills / Abilities:
- Must be able to read, write and follow verbal and written instruction. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must work well with diverse populations. Must utilize Age, Disability and Cultural Specific knowledge in working with specialized populations to best communicate with those clients.
- Must be in good physical and mental health as evidenced by a warm empathetic attitude, respect for dignity, worth and potentiality of clients and hold a high sense of personal integrity.
- Must be able to work under close supervision.
- Must successfully complete BLS certification and an Oceans approved behavioral de-escalation program
Work Environment:
Subject to many interruptions. Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. This position can be high paced and stressful; must be able to cope mentally and physically to atmosphere. Work requires spending approximately 90% or more of the time inside.
