Job Description

The Tool Room Technician is responsible for the daily organization, control, and accountability of all tools, hardware, and consumable supplies within the tool crib. A key function of this role is to establish, maintain, and continuously improve a searchable, database‑driven inventory system, including formal check‑in/check‑out procedures to ensure accurate tracking, availability, and traceability of all issued items. This position directly supports production efficiency by ensuring technicians have timely access to the tools and materials required to perform their work.

This role is essential in minimizing downtime, improving workflow, and maintaining a clean, organized, and well‑controlled production environment.

This position is well‑suited for an individual with strong initiative, attention to detail, and a desire to grow. With demonstrated performance, reliability, and willingness to learn, the Tool Room Technician will have opportunities for advancement into mechanical, electrical, or assembly technician roles, supported by on‑the‑job training and mentorship.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the organization, cleanliness, and accuracy of the tool crib, ensuring all tools, equipment, and consumables are properly stored, labeled, and accounted for.
  • Establish and manage a searchable digital inventory system, including tool identification, calibration status (if applicable), stock levels, and usage history.
  • Implement and enforce a formal tool check‑in/check‑out process to ensure accountability and prevent loss or misuse of tools and equipment.
  • Issue tools, hardware, and supplies to production personnel while maintaining accurate, real‑time documentation of all transactions.
  • Perform light mechanical and electrical sub‑assembly tasks following detailed work instructions.
  • Conduct part marking and component preparation as required.
  • Maintain a basic working knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
