SUMMARY
The Ocean Reef Chamber of Commerce (ORCC), located in North Key Largo, FL, has a position available for an Executive Director who will report directly to the ORCC Board of Directors. The Executive Director will coordinate the growth and development of the ORCC as well as the implementation of the programs necessary to achieve the mission of the ORCC. The Executive Director is responsible for providing highly visible leadership and building upon the Chamber’s strong reputation in all issues related to the business community at Ocean Reef.
SPECIFIC DUTIES (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO)
- Performs high level administrative, technical and professional work running the day to day operations of the Chamber. Serves as the professional representative of the Ocean Reef Chamber of Commerce.
- Exercises supervision of all Committees and Volunteers through assigned Committee Chairs and Board of Director Representatives.
Program of Work:
- Identifies Chamber/Community needs.
- Provides guidance to the Board of Directors when determining Program of Work.
- Implements the Program of Work.
- Evaluates and recommends changes as needed.
- Establishes system of measuring progress of program and goal attainment.
- Budgeting & Financial Recordkeeping:
- Manages the Chamber finances.
- Develops an annual budget with assistance from the Board Treasurer and other individuals, as appropriate, and presents the annual budget to the Board of Directors for approval.
- Ensures production of monthly financial statements through coordination with the Board Treasurer and other individuals, as appropriate.
- Approves all payments and expenditures within the approved annual budget or with the Board’s approval on expenses exceeding the annual budget.
- Maintains membership records including dues, invoicing, and membership trends.
- Works within the guidelines of the Chamber’s By-Laws.
- Manages all state and federal tax payments and filings.
- Meetings and Luncheons:
- Coordinates monthly luncheons to include RSVP’s, food, speakers, sponsors, slideshow presentations, and announcements.
- Coordinates Board Meetings to include preparation of the agenda, distribution of committee reports, food, and any other details which may be involved with the meeting.
Major Events:
- Ensures implementation and success of the Chamber’s four major annual events: The Chamber Kayak Cleanup, CHAMBOO Bash Halloween networking event, Paws in the Park Welcome Back Pawty, and the Golf Tournament.
New Member Recruitment and Outreach:
- The Executive Director will lead the membership efforts of the Chamber to develop programs and events to attract new members consistent with established Chamber policy.
- Establishes a personal rapport with potential members through regular contact with various businesses working at Ocean Reef.
- Sets goals for acquiring new members and retaining existing members with the Membership Committee.
- Conducts new member orientation programs.
Current Member Retention:
- Develops programs to educate and acclimate new and existing members.
- Identifies areas of interest or concern/needs within the business community and recommends possible solutions/resolutions.
Governmental Affairs:
- Acts as an advocate for the business community that may require an official position statement from the Chamber.
- Keeps informed of projects and legislation that might impact the business community and reports to the Board of Directors those issues that may have short- or long-term implications.
- Meets and establishes rapport with elected and non-elected officials at the local, regional, state and federal level and takes the lead in the Chamber’s government affairs outreach efforts.
Committees and Events:
- Provides leadership assistance in the coordination of committees and/or events.
- Coordinates committees and/or programs to serve member needs as they arise.
- Recruits, motivates, and provides recognition for volunteer leaders to serve on Chamber committees and Board of Directors.
- Fosters an environment that encourages involvement by all members.
Marketing and Media:
- Maintains the Chamber website.
- Produces a monthly electronic newsletter to be distributed via email blast to Chamber members.
- Maintain the Chamber of Commerce Facebook Page.
- Coordinates the “Choose Chamber” ad campaign and other advertisements for the Reef Press newspaper.
- Ensures an audited and updated list of members is sent annually to the ORCA office for inclusion in the community telephone directory.
Other Responsibilities:
- The Executive Director will primarily work from the Chamber of Commerce office.
- Maintains the office including cleanliness and upkeep of supplies.
- Answers phone calls and email inquiries to the Chamber.
- Ensures proper working order of telephone system, copy machine, and other office equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to be a self-starter and create own motivation.
- Experience bringing groups and individuals together around complex issues and finding and implementing solutions.
- Solid financial acumen, with experience in developing and managing budgets.
- Understanding of government affairs.
- Experience with public relations, media relations, and public speaking.
- Capable of looking at the “big picture,” absorbing information quickly, thinking broadly, analyzing thoroughly, and acting decisively.
- Superior communication and presentation skills.
- Proven ability for setting goals and objectives, planning, and tracking multiple projects, interpreting data, and holding people accountable for results.
- Willing to play a highly visible role. The ideal candidate must participate broadly across the leadership structure of the community.
- Leadership skills sufficient to gain the trust and confidence of Chamber stakeholders.
- A motivator who creates a sense of mission and service, who values initiative and innovation, and who fosters effective communication and collaboration among people at all levels.
- A proficient knowledge of computer office technology, including working familiarity with data base software.
- Possess professional presence and strong interpersonal skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University in Business, Management, Economics, Political Science, Communications, Public Administration, or related field is preferred.
Experience
Successful Chamber management experience or similar position of management in membership, non-profit, business or government operations is preferred.
