What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mate position at Ocean Harvesters?
Responsibilities:
The Mate will be responsible for safely and efficiently performing the specific duties below:
- Pilot the steamer
- Tie off cork to vessel with the Cook, Chief Engineer, and the Second Engineer.
- Climb the masthead to spot sets if the spotter plane is not flying
- Supervise crew, and coordinate and monitor maintenance of all equipment
- Maintain cleanliness of work area
- Completes all tasks safely
- Report all hazards, accidents, injuries, or environmental excursions to your supervisor or a member of the management team immediately
- All other duties as assigned
Minimum requirements:
- Excellent work ethic
- 4 Years total with 2 years under exp. mate of captain
- Ability to work overtime, weekend, and rotating shifts as required
- Physical and cognitive abilities to perform the job
- Experience as a Mate Trainee or fisherman for Omega Protein for one year or as a Mate for another company for two years is preferred
