What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bosun position at Ocean Harvesters?
Responsibilities:
The Bosun will be responsible for safely and efficiently performing the specific duties below:
- Operate purse boat by Captain’s direction to surround set.
- Pull net taut with Seine setter, Bow man
- Stand at stern of the purse boat to grab the line/rope
- Tie off cork to vessel with the Cook, Chief Engineer, and the Second Engineer
- Repair holes in nets
- Climb the masthead to spot sets if the spotter plane is not flying, if safe to do so
- Supervise crew and coordinates and monitors maintenance of all equipment
- All other duties as assigned
Minimum requirements:
- Physical and cognitive abilities to perform the job
- Experience as a Bosun Trainee or fisherman for Omega Protein for one year or as a Bosun for another company for two years is preferred
- Safety conscious
- Possess people skills and ability to help manage the crew
