- This is a developmental position; duties listed below will be performed in a developmental capacity at the GS-05 grade level. At the full performance, GS-07, the incumbent will:
- Responsible evaluation of 911 emergency calls; for determining nature of call; prioritizing all incoming calls; identification of and level of response necessary and provides any additional information to the responding units.
- Maintain contact with emergency callers during situations until appropriate emergency field units arrive on scene.
- Provide emergency medical dispatching (EMD) assistance to callers with medical emergencies using the local authority emergency medical dispatch system.
- Monitors status and availability of police, fire and medical units to assure an appropriate response is made.
Conditions of employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position is subject to shift work. Incumbent is required to work an alternate work schedule, requiring an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends and holidays) and must wear a uniform.
- Required to work regardless of weather conditions, Force Protection Conditions or installation closure and to report to duty station at the regularly scheduled time. Work is performed in a highly stressful, restricted office environment.
- Designated Key Position. This position shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the agency to function effectively.
- Employee is required to obtain and maintain certification in CPR, Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), DoD Hazardous Materials Awareness, Alaska State Police Information Network (ASPIN) , and DoD Telecommuncator I and II.
- Employee is responsible for attaining continuing Dispatch and Intrusion Detection education requirements through in-service training.
- Employee must maintain an overall compliance score of 90 percent, or better, as reviewed by the Advanced Quality Assurance (AQUA) software.
- Employee must obtain and maintain a valid state of Alaska driver's license.
- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain clearance certification with the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN), Public Safety Commission, for access and exposure to law enforcement sensitive information and operation when applicable.
