Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Engineering Equipment Operator ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Engineering Equipment Operator duties including operating engineering equipment such as dump trucks, graders or tractors; Driving large trucks such as dump trucks to haul sand, stone and other aggregates; I can operate engineering equipment such as dump trucks, graders or tractors; Level grounds using equipment such as pay loaders; Drive large trucks such as dump trucks to haul sand, stone and other aggregates; Drive large snow removal equipment such as drive dump trucks with plow and sander attachments. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
NOTE: This position has a selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. This position requires a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Physical Effort: The operator is constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Because of the location of some of the controls and attachments, the operator is frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions with larger pieces of equipment that require frequent adjustments under adverse operating conditions. Operator may be required to handle large pieces of equipment which may require frequent adjustments under adverse operating conditions. Occasionally the operator will be required to lift, carry, or move objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in all types of weather, often in an open driver's seat or platform, on hills, slopes, grades, and rolling surfaces. Operator is required to use hand tools such as grease gun, pliers, wrenches, screwdriver, oil can, etc. The operator is exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning and subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust. Safety glasses, goggles, hard hats, safety shoes or boots, hip boots, and earplugs or earmuffs are used.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

- Operates a motor grader equipped with cutting blade in the preparation of road beds; spreading and leveling road building materials such as crushed rock; building and grading road shoulders
- Operates a diesel powered bulldozer with a concave steel scraper blade mounted in front of chassis to level, distribute and push earth.
- Operates other equipment such as 5, 8, and 20-ton dump trucks, scoop loader, tractor trailer, street sweeper, street flusher, tree trimming truck, fuel truck and various types of tractors and attachments.
- Operates front-end loader in loading dump trucks with rock, gravel, sand, dirt, etc., or in moving such material short distances.
Conditions of employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Work may be required outside of normal duty hours which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays to include shift work.
- This position requires the incumbent to wear protective clothing such as hard hats, steel toed shoes, gloves and/or goggles/Work is performed outside with exposure to snow, ice, heat, dust and dirt.
- This is a drug testing designated position.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid state (and government) driver's license.
- Heavy lifting of 100 pounds is required.
