Duties

  • Install, maintain, and modify surveillance video equipment.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair avionic communications systems to include voice switching systems, digital voice recorders and GPS antennas.
  • Test, maintain, and repair microprocessor and computer-controlled communications consoles and radio equipment.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electronic fire alarm equipment.
  • Set up and operate public address systems.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Work is usually done inside, with occasional work outside in poor weather conditions. Employee is subject to injuries such as electric shock, cuts and bruises, as well as burns from electrical equipment or soldering irons.
  • The work requires light to moderate physical effort, lifting items weighing up to 40 pounds. Assistance is usually available for items heavier than 40 pounds.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Electronics Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Independently install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot and repair electronics equipment of moderate complexity that is self-contained and function independent such as video recorders, audio recorders, two-way radios, multichannel very high frequency (VHF) or ultra high frequency (UHF) transmitters or receivers; or a system of limited complexity such as security monitoring and access systems, and closed-circuit TV monitor systems. Work is performed under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews work upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

  • Physical Efforts: The work requires light to moderate physical effort, lifting items weighing up to 40 pounds. Assistance is usually available for items heavier than 40 pounds. Work is performed in sitting positions, but requires standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. high work is occasionally required.
  • Working Conditions: Work is usually done inside, with occasional work outside in poor weather conditions. Employee is subject to injuries such as electric shock, cuts and bruises, as well as burns from electrical equipment or soldering irons.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
