Director of Events Programming

Observer Media, home to the iconic brands Commercial Observer and Observer, is looking for a creative and experienced Director of Events to expand its industry-leading events business. This individual will bring our content to life through engaging in-person events and virtual programs that feature some of the most innovative and important business leaders driving the commercial real estate industry forward, and creating the new economy and culture (think tech, DEI, philanthropy, climate and more).

The Director of Events will lead the strategy and execution of our events business. This positive and nimble leader will manage internal team members and external agencies for event logistics and programming, and work closely with the executive team to ensure our events continue to be memorable, innovative, and provide exclusive insights to attendees.

This is an ideal role for an ambitious, strategic and creative events professional with a solid understanding of the real estate industry that wants to own a leadership role within a growing business line and make an impact.

Responsibilities

• Develop event themes, internal event briefings and proposed new event formats that attract event registration and sought after speakers
• Draft event descriptions and session/panel titles and descriptions
• Program each event, researching and inviting keynote speakers and panel speakers that elevate each event and encourage registrations
• Host and participate in all event session prep calls with moderators and speakers to take notes and form discussion/panel outlines for distribution to speakers
• Work closely with sales representatives to engage partner accounts throughout each event, incorporate existing and prospective sponsor feedback to grow events and events revenue
• Lead event marketing to ensure every event is being primely positioned in the marketplace and that event marketing materials reflect timely and exciting aspects of the programming
• Lead the strategic direction and execution of the events business, including working with the Head of Events to set the calendar of events and goals
• Launch new event formats to ensure that the company’s programs continue to inspire and engage participants, and meet the expectations of attendees, sponsors and partners.
• Set, meet and report on event-level registration, revenue, diversity, profitability and satisfaction goals
• Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the competitive landscape and apply these learnings to our events business to ensure continued growth.
• Leverage data collected as part of events as a key asset of the business.
• Conduct post event wrap reports to track success and identify areas for improvement and growth
  
  

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of the real estate industry, a background in real estate PR is a plus
• 5 years of experience managing and producing events. Business-focused events experience a plus.
• Genuine enthusiasm for events and driving satisfaction from both attendees and sponsors.
• Experience with managing a frequent cadence (2x per month) of panel-driven events.
• Experience reporting results and analysis to leadership and colleagues.
• Self-motivated and inherently accountable to achieve commercial results.
• Understands how user data collected from events can be leveraged by other areas of the business such as product, marketing and sales for the advancement of the entire organization.
• Familiarity with financial data and proficiency Excel and/or Google Sheets.
• The ability to inspire teams and operate effectively in a high-paced environment.
• Familiarity with both in-person and virtual events.

Compensation Range - $85K - $100K per year
