OBAYASHI - JAY DEE, JV is seeking an experienced heavy equipment mechanic to provide essential support for our tunnel project in Manchester, NH. This position reports to the Foreman and plays a key role in maintaining site safety and efficiency. This is an hourly, nonexempt position. Start pay at $51/hour DOE.
Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs on a fleet of heavy diesel equipment (Cranes, Excavators, Forklifts, Loaders, Skid steers, etc.).
- Conduct inspections in compliance with DOT and company safety standards.
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
Work Environment & Requirements
- Work in above- and underground environments, including confined spaces, in varying weather conditions and exposure to noise, dirt, moisture, and temperature extremes.
- Physically demanding role requiring strength, stamina, and the ability to perform sustained activities such as climbing, balancing, and material handling.
- Ability to lift at least 40 lbs. unassisted and perform movements such as stooping, bending, crawling, twisting, and working in tight spaces.
- Requires manual dexterity to handle tools and small components.
- Must be able to work extended hours in challenging conditions while maintaining composure in potentially stressful situations.
- Day shift schedule.
- Work collaboratively with a team of engineers, geologists, equipment operators, and safety personnel.
Qualifications
- Safety Orientation: A strong commitment to safety protocols and the ability to comply with all federal and state safety regulations (OSHA 10 certification is required).
- Experience: 5 years of experience in heavy truck/diesel maintenance and hydraulic systems with applicable certifications.
- Mechanical aptitude and understanding of diesel engine systems.
- Problem-solving and diagnostic skills to identify and fix engine or system malfunctions.
- Attention to detail for accurate repairs and maintenance.
- Manual dexterity and physical stamina for handling heavy parts and working in various conditions.
- Ability to read repair manuals and use precision measuring instruments.
- Valid CDL license(s) may be required for operating certain vehicles.
- Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with tunnel-specific equipment (TBM, locomotives, slurry systems).
- Familiarity with underground construction practices.
