Position Summary
The Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting pharmacists in the preparation of sterile compounded medications in compliance with USP <797>, USP <800> (when applicable), state and federal regulations, and company policies. This position plays a critical role in ensuring patients receive safe, accurate, and timely therapies.
Responsibilities
- Prepare sterile IV medications using aseptic technique.
- Compound antibiotics, hydration, biologics, TPNs, chemotherapy (if applicable), and specialty infusion medications.
- Maintain cleanroom and ante room according to USP standards.
- Perform environmental cleaning and documentation.
- Complete all required compounding logs and quality assurance documentation.
- Label medications accurately and prepare products for dispensing.
- Assist with inventory management and monitor medication expiration dates.
- Receive and stock medications and sterile supplies.
- Maintain proper storage conditions for medications and supplies.
- Participate in routine equipment maintenance and certification processes.
- Assist pharmacists with prescription preparation and workflow.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, state Board of Pharmacy regulations, and company policies.
- Work collaboratively with pharmacists, nurses, intake coordinators, and delivery staff to ensure excellent patient care.
QualificationsRequired
- Current Pharmacy Technician registration/licensure (as required by state law)
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB or ExCPT) preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork
- Ability to work independently while maintaining high accuracy
Preferred
- Previous sterile compounding experience
- Experience in a home infusion or hospital pharmacy
- Familiarity with USP <797> and USP <800>
- Knowledge of IV admixture techniques
- Experience with pharmacy software systems
