Position Description
As a Medical Lab Technician/Scientist under general supervision, you'll perform routine medical laboratory tests essential for diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease, as well as ensuring the validity and accuracy of test results. You'll participate in the supportive functions of quality control, instrument operation, limited troubleshooting, teaching, and limited problem resolution.
Responsibilities
- Perform analyses on biological specimens, e.g. blood and urine, to aid health care providers in the diagnosis and treatment of patients
- Participate in the supportive functions of quality control, instrument operation, limited troubleshooting, teaching, and limited problem resolution
- Work in the lab to help conduct important patient tests
- Set up, calibrate, and operate lab equipment
- Examine specimens for bacteria, viruses or parasites
- Measure levels of drugs or other chemicals in the blood to help ensure medications are at their most therapeutic levels
- Look at the chemical content of the blood to determine deficiencies in nutrients or excesses of cholesterol or blood sugars
- Make use of cell counters, cultures, microscopes and other various types of equipment
- Maintain patient confidentiality
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned
- Work a flexible schedule within the clinic or department hours based on clinical demand or need
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent (i.e. military-trained - Medical Lab Specialist certificate of training obtained prior to April 24, 1995)
- OR
- Bachelors degree in medical laboratory science or military equivalent or must be qualified to perform high complexity testing according to CLIA 493.1489
- Active certification through ASCP, AMT, HEW or AAB - Required
- 18 months of Medical Laboratory Technologist/Technician /Scientist experience - Required
- Understanding of scientific laboratory procedures, including using laboratory equipment and generating reports from laboratory tests
- Current knowledge of laboratory procedures and equipment expected
- Previous laboratory experience is recommended
- Moderate to advanced computer skills
- Possess good written and oral communications skills
- Ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely, and adjust to changes in work volumes and projects
Salary : $22
