Our healthcare team consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, dietitians, nurses, respiratory therapists and medical assistants working in concert with laboratory/imaging services to offer individualized care to the Chippewa Valley.
Position Description
The Hyperbaric Oxygen Specialist is responsible for the safe and effective delivery of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy. This role ensures patient safety, chamber operation, and adherence to clinical protocols while supporting physicians and nurses in providing comprehensive wound and hyperbaric care. The specialist also maintains equipment, documents treatments, and promotes quality outcomes in the hyperbaric medicine program.
Responsibilities
- Assist with patient orientation, education, and preparation for HBO therapy
- Perform pre-treatment safety checks and ensure patients are properly screened for contraindications
- Monitor patients during HBO treatments for safety, comfort, and treatment tolerance
- Provide immediate response and intervention in case of patient distress, chamber complications, or emergencies
- Operate monoplace hyperbaric chambers in accordance with physician orders and UHMS (Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society) guidelines
- Conduct pre- and post-treatment chamber checks, including pressurization, oxygen delivery, and fire-safety inspections
- Maintain detailed HBO treatment logs, safety records, and equipment maintenance documentation
- Adhere strictly to infection control, fire prevention, and oxygen-safety standards
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly safety inspections of HBO chambers and support systems
- Troubleshoot minor technical issues and coordinate with biomedical engineering for maintenance/repairs
- Ensure proper calibration and functioning of monitoring equipment
- Work closely with physicians, wound care nurses, and other team members to ensure coordinated care
- Communicate effectively with patients and caregivers regarding treatment expectations and outcomes
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, staff education, and safety drills
- Work a flexible schedule within the clinic or department hours based on clinical demand or need
- Additional duties may be assigned
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Job Type: Full Time, Monday-Friday. 7am-430pm
