Responsibilities
- Operate laundry equipment to wash, dry, fold, and distribute linens, clothing, and other textiles efficiently and safely.
- Perform thorough cleaning of patient rooms, common areas, restrooms, and healthcare facilities using appropriate cleaning agents and equipment.
- Handle chemical agents safely by following OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) guidelines and safety protocols to prevent accidents or contamination.
- Conduct floor care activities including sweeping, mopping, buffing, and stripping to maintain spotless surfaces in compliance with sanitation standards.
- Assist with manual handling tasks such as heavy lifting of laundry loads or cleaning supplies while adhering to safe lifting practices.
- Ensure all cleaning supplies and chemicals are stored securely and used in accordance with environmental services policies.
- Support infection control measures by maintaining high standards of sanitation, following healthcare-specific cleaning procedures, and adhering to environmental services protocols.
- Collaborate with healthcare staff to meet specific cleanliness requirements for patient safety and comfort.
- Maintain detailed records of laundry processing, cleaning schedules, safety inspections, and incident reports as required.
Skills
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations related to chemical handling, safety protocols, and workplace hazards.
- Proven experience in healthcare facilities housekeeping or janitorial roles within hospitals or clinics.
- Skilled in the use of cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, washers/dryers, vacuums, mops, and disinfectant sprayers.
- Strong understanding of sanitation standards specific to healthcare environments to prevent infection transmission.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while following proper manual handling techniques.
- Excellent customer service skills to interact professionally with staff and visitors when needed.
- Familiarity with environmental services procedures including floor care, sanitation practices, and chemical agent handling.
- Commitment to safety protocol adherence at all times to ensure a secure working environment for yourself and others.
- Experience with hospital or healthcare custodial operations is highly desirable for optimal performance in this role.
