Minimum Qualifications
Positive attitude and demonstrates respect towards individuals impacted by autism and other disabilities.
Ability to work independently and as a team player with direction from multiple supervisors (camp lead teacher and OUCARES Administrative team).
Dependable, punctual, and professional at all times.
Enthusiastic, willingness to learn and participate fully.
Previous experience with individuals impacted by autism or related experience.
Must be comfortable using computers and have experience with Google Drive, Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, and Google Meet platforms.
Desired Qualifications
At least one year of experience working with individual(s) impacted by autism. CPI training preferred. CPR/First aid training preferred.
Position Purpose
Summer Camp Staff are responsible for helping ensure the safety and engagement of campers impacted by autism at OUCARES summer camps. Camp staff must have a team-focused mindset in order to work with other camp staff, lead teachers, administrators, and practicum students. Camp staff will help with initiating campers’ hands-on involvement in all camp activities. Furthermore, camp staff must have great communication skills and be able to problem-solve quickly. Staff are critical for keeping an energetic, safe environment and an engaging approach at OUCARES camps.
Job Duties
Regular attendance for all camp days. Additional time commitments for training, planning meetings, and staff planning sessions.
Work as a team with lead teachers, administrators, and practicum students to communicate and implement daily camp activities for campers impacted by autism spectrum disorders. This includes assisting with creating the camp curriculum, setting up activities, leading activities assigned by the lead teacher, and cleaning up after all camp activities.
Assist with the creation and implementation of positive behavior supports for the campers.
Communicate with camp administrators if situations arise that require more assistance.
Initiate positive interactions and actively engage with campers (children, teens, and/or adults). Treat all campers with inherent dignity and respect, prioritizing their autonomy and self-determination. Implement an individualized, strengths-based approach that is appropriate to each camper.
Keep a clean and safe camp environment at all times, following all OU protocols to keep staff and campers safe and healthy. Ensure general safety and adherence to all OU and OUCARES policies and procedures at all times.
