PURPOSE
AVID – Advancement Via Individual Determination
The halftime (.50) AVID Site Coordinator position, housed at Oakland Middle School, is responsible for fidelity in implementing the AVID College Readiness System in the AVID elective classroom and schoolwide.
The individual selected for this position will also be responsible for two sections (.50) of the AVID Elective course—and other teaching responsibilities as assigned by the building principal.
Why This Role
This position combines two of the most impactful roles in AVID implementation: leading the AVID program at the site level as the Site Coordinator, and working directly with AVID students every day as the AVID Elective Teacher. The individual in this role builds lasting relationships with students in the academic middle—many of whom will be the first in their families to attend college—while also shaping the schoolwide AVID culture through coordination with the principal, counselor, and District AVID Coordinator. Oakland Middle School has an established AVID program and supportive building administration, with meaningful opportunity to build and strengthen the site team. The successful candidate joins a district with 13 years of AVID implementation and a District AVID Coordinator committed to site-level success.
