Instructs and gives technical guidance to District Court Clerks on work details and court procedures, Michigan Court Rules, and Michigan Law as it pertains to the civil, criminal, traffic, probation, or the administration unit of the District Court. Assigns and reviews the work of lower-level clerical employees and performs clerical duties within a particular unit. Attends to general and specific inquiries, as well as difficult situations with the general public, attorneys and law enforcement personnel regarding court cases, court policies and procedures and legal procedures following established court rules and statutes. Oversees the collection of fines, costs, fees, bonds, and civil escrow monies. Issues checks from the court’s trust account. Is responsible for the preparation of reports and special projects. May perform various secretarial duties for the Court Administrator and/or Office Supervisor. May oversee the operation of a cash register, court recording software, CLEMIS and LEIN functions and various computer equipment. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
Minimum Qualifications
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Employees of this class train lower clerical employees, as well as provide guidance regarding court policies, procedures and legal matters that pertain to the workload of the civil, criminal, traffic, or probation units. Assigns, monitors and/or reviews the work of District Court Clerks, and as needed perform duties associated with these classifications.
Essential Job Functions
Instructs District Court Clerks on work details and court procedures, Michigan Court Rules, and Michigan Law as it pertains to the civil, criminal, traffic, probation, or administration unit of the District Court.
Attends to general and specific inquiries, as well as difficult situations with the general public, attorneys, and law enforcement personnel regarding civil, criminal, traffic, probation, or administrative court cases and legal or internal procedures following established court rules, applicable laws and internal procedures.
Oversees the compilation of and provides statistical data for the individual unit.
Oversees the collection of fines, costs, fees bonds, and civil escrow as it pertains to the District Court Clerk - Seniors particular unit.
Issues checks from the court's trust account.
Oversees record destruction as it pertains to the District Court Clerk – Senior’s particular unit.
Maintains the issuance of bench warrant, court ordered restricted driver's license, license suspension and warrant recall controls and closely monitors the production of these documents.
Confers with the Court Administrator or Office Supervisor on personnel related matters pertaining to the appropriate unit.
Recommends to the Court Administrator unit technology and procedural needs and changes.
Prepares requests for office supplies and printing and verifies products against orders when they arrive.
Notifies administrative staff of building maintenance needs.
May be required to obtain court recorder certification and/or operate court recording equipment on a limited and/or emergency basis.
Acts as a liaison with local governmental agencies regarding projects that affect the individual unit.
Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
Additional Duties & Responsibilities
May authorize the payment of operational expenses as it relates to the court's annual budget.
May perform various secretarial duties for the Court Administrator and/or Office Supervisor.
May oversee the operation of a cash register, CLEMIS and LEIN functions and various computer equipment.

Ability to communicate to accurately convey information.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a typical office and/or court environment.
May encounter situations where people could become confrontational.

- DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Have at least five (5) years full-time experience in a court system or comparable qualifications that meet the Court Administrator's approval or has the essential knowledge and proficiency to provide coverage in at least three of the following areas in addition to their current work assignment: Probation, Civil, Traffic, Criminal, Jury, Cash and/or Court Recording.
- Have considerable knowledge of and experience in the operations, policies, and procedures of a district court.
- Have reasonable ability in recommending and implementing procedural changes.
- Have reasonable ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, employees, and the general public.
- Have a reasonable knowledge and ability to perform the functions of the unit.
- Reasonable ability to utilize current word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and Internet software.
