Required Minimum Qualifications
At least 18 years old and a high school graduate; OR have completed the State requirements for a G.E.D. certificate; OR be an emancipated minor at least 16 years old.
Have had at least three (3) months of full-time custodial experience.
Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical established for this classification.
Successfully complete the six month probationary period.
Essential Job Functions
Empties and replaces liners for all trash receptacle units. Transports all trash and/or recycling material to the appropriate dumpster, compactor and/or trash bins.
Performs general custodial duties required for the upkeep of all hard surface flooring by utilizing handheld, power and automatic commercial floor care equipment, i.e., sweeping, mopping (dry/wet), scrubbing, vacuuming, refinishing, burnishing and/or all other tasks required to properly maintain the appearance and safe surface.
Performs general custodial duties required for the upkeep of all carpeted flooring by utilizing commercial vacuums, spotters, and hot water extractor equipment.
Cleans and disinfects restroom and locker room surfaces (toilets, urinals, sinks, countertops, showers, partitions, floors etc.) Clean and stock/restock all dispensers (soap, towels, tissue, paper hygiene products etc.) and check for proper orientations. Cleans and disinfects all common contact points (switch plates, door handles, safety bars, water fountains, trash receptacles, etc.). Cleans all mirrored and glass surfaces.
Performs all custodial tasks associated with high/low dusting, spot cleaning and maintaining the appearance of horizontal and vertical surfaces. Cleaning and disinfecting common contact points (door handles, light switches and plates, countertops, food prep areas, sinks, elevator buttons, telephones etc.). Spot clean and/or polish glass, metal surfaces and furnishings.
Must understand the general use and safety precautions required when handling and using cleaning chemicals (household, commercial and industrial), household and commercial equipment, and the proper use of PPE’s (personnel protection equipment).
Additional Duties And Responsibilities
Moves furniture and building fixtures to provide access to areas needing cleaning.
Unloads and stores custodial chemicals, paper products, janitorial supplies, and equipment.
Provides assistance with emergency cleanup caused by flooding, fire, bloodborne pathogens cleanup and any unforeseen situation that impacts the cleanliness, health and appearance of the County facilities.
Performs basic upkeep of vacuums cleaners (change bags, filters, and brushes) as needed.
Essential Mental & Physical Requirements
Ability to communicate to accurately convey information.
Ability to work for prolonged hours standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, pushing, and reaching.
WORKING CONDITIONS
May perform duties in areas with exposure to odors, dust, gases, and vapors with limited ventilation.
May be exposed to communicable diseases, sharp and/or dangerous objects, and moving or dangerous machinery or weapons.
May work for prolonged hours standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, pushing, and reaching.
May be exposed to chemicals that could affect health conditions.
