Founded in 1996, Oakdale Precision, Inc. is an AS9100 and ISO 9001:2015 certified, ITAR registered, continuously growing job shop based in Oakdale, MN. We specialize in quick-turn, prototype, and custom builds, serving over 125 different customers with parts, assemblies, fixtures, and capital equipment. Our manufacturing capabilities include design engineering, milling, turning, sheet metal, welding, grinding, contract inspection, and assembly, backed by full-time mechanical engineers and toolmakers.


Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Swiss Machinist at Oakdale Precision, Inc. The Swiss Machinist will be responsible for operating Swiss machines, producing high-quality parts, and ensuring product quality and performance. The role will also involve working on medium to large production runs and custom builds.


  • 1st Shift is from 7AM to 3PM Monday thru Friday
  • 2nd shift is from 3PM to 1AM Monday thru Thursday

  • Proficiency in swiss setup and operation
  • Knowledge of machining tools, materials, and processes
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Swiss programming experience with Partmaker, GibbsCAM or similar software is a plus

Highly qualified personnel would meet the following criteria.


Task Inventory

1. Study blueprints and job routers for information on specifications and materials to determine material

requirements and operational sequences to set up new jobs.

2. Select proper cutting tools using knowledge of material properties and tool availability.

3. Position, secure, and align tools in tool holders on machines and verify their positions.

4. Program/operate controls to set cutting speeds and depths and feed rates.

5. Inspect sample workpieces to verify conformance with specifications and ensure in-process quality control sampling requirements are met.

6. Monitor processes, materials and operations and if needed, adjust machine controls and change tool settings to keep dimensions within specified tolerances.

7. Clean and prepare parts for finishing and shipping, as indicated on print and/or job router.

8. Meet or exceed job order expectations (set up, cycle time, total hours).

9. Create set up sheets; catalog and store custom tooling and part programs.

10.Update company information on job routers to improve re-order efficiency.

11.Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform preventative maintenance functions on equipment and tools

Knowledge

• Blueprint reading, geometric dimension and tolerance system

• Mathematics: adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, geometry, algebra, trigonometry

• Machines: designs, uses, capabilities, limitations, and maintenance

• Tools: cutoff, face/turn, groove, drill, thread, etc.; and their specific capabilities, proper set up and utilization

• Work holding and/or fixturing: capabilities and limitations

• Measuring devices: micrometers, calipers, comparators, indicators, others

• Material: properties/cutting dynamics, including proper speeds and feeds

• Post work processing and finishing, including effects of post-processing and finishing operations

• Shop operations/systems: material stock and labeling, shipping prep, chip management, waste handling

• Standard operating procedures; safety protocols and practices

Technology and Technical Skills

• Calculate dimensions or tolerances, including allowances for coatings or plating, when needed

• Use/interpret computer aided manufacturing software (CAM/CAD) and programming language (G-Code)

• Use/interpret CNC controls

• Read/interpret blue prints

• Operate computers and effectively manage files

• Monitor and control operations

• Perform quality control: test and inspect parts using instruments such as micrometers or calipers

Education/Experience

Requires a high school diploma and a relevant two year trade school diploma, and quality, fully involved job shadowing with an expert and/or previous work experience with a broad range of machines, materials, and machining practices, including process development, programming, and machining.


Job Relationships

Reports to Swiss Manager. Receives feedback on performance from Swiss Manager and Lead Machinist.
