Safety Coordinator

Oak Electric Service
Waterford, MI Full Time
POSTED ON 7/28/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 9/28/2026

We’re looking for a Safety Coordinator to lead the day-to-day execution of our safety program across all company locations. This is a hands-on, high-visibility role for someone who wants to build real ownership over a growing platform — you’ll be the main safety resource for the organization, working in close partnership with a cross-company safety committee and executive sponsor. A secondary, smaller-scope fleet compliance responsibility rounds out the role, focused on keeping our vehicles and drivers safe and DOT-compliant.

This is an in-office role based in Waterford, MI, with regular travel required to all company locations across the Midwest and Northeast.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Program Administration

  • Administer and coordinate execution of the annual safety training plan across all locations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all incident and accident reporting, leading investigations and root cause analysis in partnership with local managers and leadership.
  • Work closely with leadership, HR, insurance, and regulatory authorities as needed to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal (OSHA) regulations.
  • Act as the organization’s main safety professional — leading and supporting the program through the cross-company safety committee rather than working in isolation.

Safety Committee Leadership

  • Run the cross-company safety committee, with a representative from each business unit, in partnership with the executive safety sponsor.
  • Use the committee to surface site-level issues, align on training priorities, and drive consistent standards across the platform.

Training & Compliance

  • Conduct routine and ad hoc safety trainings, including new hire safety orientation.
  • Lead quarterly (or more frequent, as needed) safety training for office team members as part of the annual training plan.
  • Perform PPE inspections, field site inspections, and warehouse inspections.
  • Maintain and administer OSHA compliance recordkeeping and reporting.

Reporting & Trend Analysis

  • Provide weekly KPI inputs to support performance tracking.
  • Distribute weekly safe driving reports to managers.
  • Analyze safety trends and prescribe targeted training to address root causes.

Fleet Compliance (Secondary Scope)

  • Ensure routine vehicle maintenance and safety inspections are completed.
  • Ensure all vehicles meet DOT compliance standards where applicable.
  • Confirm all drivers hold proper licensing for the vehicles they operate.
  • Manage vehicle registration renewals and certificates of insurance (COI).

What You’ll Need

  • Some experience in safety, construction, electrical contracting, utilities, or a related trade environment.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required, or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety compliance requirements, with the ability and willingness to work directly with OSHA on incident investigations and compliance matters.
  • Ability and willingness to lead trainings — both routine and ad hoc — confidently in front of field and office teams.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Comfortable working in both field (job site) and office environments.
  • Strong organizational skills and the drive to manage multiple sites and priorities independently.
  • Proactive, self-directed, and eager to build something — this role has real room to grow in scope, title, and compensation as the platform expands.

Working Conditions

  • In-office role (not remote); travel to job sites required across Midwest and Northeast locations, estimated 10–25%.
  • Regular work performed outdoors in varying weather conditions on active job sites.
  • Ability to walk job sites, climb ladders, and navigate uneven terrain.
  • Must wear and enforce required PPE at all times on site.
