About the Role
The Cutoff Operator B is responsible for removing complex castings from sprue sticks using cutoff saws and related equipment while ensuring product quality, safety, and batch integrity. This role supports production efficiency by performing precision cutoff operations, maintaining accurate records, and providing guidance to Casting Cleaning Operators.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely remove complex aluminum, copper, and brass alloy castings from sprue sticks using abrasive saws and band saws.
- Follow all job safety requirements, work instructions, manufacturing process sheets, and special process sheets.
- Inspect sprue sticks for potential cutoff issues and communicate concerns to the department supervisor.
- Exercise extreme care to prevent damage to castings and saw blades during cutoff operations.
- Maintain batch integrity by properly organizing castings, test bars, and racks.
- Transfer castings to subsequent operations per production requirements.
- Perform minor equipment maintenance, including replacing saw blades and abrasive wheels.
- Identify and properly handle revert metal for transfer to foundry or storage.
- Develop acceptable cutoff techniques and fixtures for sample castings.
- Maintain accurate production records, logs, and documentation.
- Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
- Complete required hazardous materials, lockout/tagout, and lifting technique training.
- Provide guidance and instruction to Casting Cleaning Operators.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

- Working knowledge of blueprints

Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior foundry, manufacturing, or metalworking experience
- Experience with abrasive saws, band saws, or similar industrial equipment
Work Environment
- Foundry environment with exposure to temperature fluctuations
- Physically demanding role requiring standing, lifting, and repetitive motion
- Exposure to potentially hazardous equipment requiring strict adherence to safety procedures
- Personal protective equipment required
