NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility is home to theKnapp Cardiac Care Center-an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility-as well as a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. Our Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk has multiple outpatient sites, including an outpatient wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Patient Safety & Quality Specialist, - Performance Improvement - Full Time, Days - Performance Impro.

In this role, the successful candidate Partners with the designated clinical services/departments to facilitate continuous improvement by implementing structures to identify variances and opportunities for improvement; facilitate analysis and review; oversee, lead and/or participates in implementation of improvement strategies; and evaluates the effectiveness of those strategies. Applies the departmental values in all of their interactions of activities including: thorough, objective analysis of all referrals with a focus on learning and improvement; a systems-based approach that uses recognized performance improvement methodologies; the use of data to evaluate clinical performance; and the provision of feedback through data and sharing lessons learned.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Manages interdisciplinary teams in specific improvement projects. Uses recognized performance improvement methodologies to lead teams to success. Supports analysis of project outcomes through the use of data.
  • Reviews performance data. Works with clinical leadership to identify performance indicators and to identify and prioritize opportunities for improvement.
  • Analyzes performance data from internal and external sources. Follows up on incidentadverse event reports through a thorough, objective analysis. Applies a systems-based approach to review and improvement. Applies the principles of a just culture in participating in and facilitating root cause analyses. Evaluates performance against recognized benchmarks to identify opportunities for improvement. Communicates with the appropriate clinical and administrative leadership in a timely manner.
  • Works with committees and teams as an active participant in analyzing processes, process variation, and supporting continuous improvement.
  • Promotes a culture of safety and continuous improvement through just in time training and sharing of lessons learned. Participates in development and delivery of formal education programs to support improvement goals.
  • Models a patient-centered, interdisciplinary team approach to improvement and safety that values transparency. All projects focus on optimizing patient care from a quality, safety and patient experience perspective. Transparency in order to maximize organizational learning and improvement is consistently practiced.
  • Continually develops skills and knowledge related to performance improvement, patient safety, leadership and change management through formal and informal training literature review, participation in conferences and professional organizations. Demonstrates knowledge of evolving and best practices related to the applicable clinical area and related performance improvement and patient safety. Seeks out opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills through attendance at conferences.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor's Degree . Current and valid NYS Registered Professional Nurse License. 5 years Progressive clinical experience. Excellent communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, organization, presentation skills. Proficient is Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Proficient in process analysis, data analysis, project management and facilitation..

Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License-NYS

Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality Preferred. Must obtain designation within two years of employment. 7 years Performance improvement or management experience. Masters Degree.

NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $84,956.87 - $137,280.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
