Minimum Qualifications
This position will be filled by temporary appointment, without examination, via Section 64.3 of Civil Service Law.
Candidates must have 12 years of progressive management experience with transportation projects related to highways/roadways, railroads, bridges, airports, waterways, building structures, or traffic management and safety systems; minimum 3 yrs experience in supervision.

The salary range listed reflects the full range for this graded position. For new State employees appointed into graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts. This position will function as the Major Project Director for Upstate Area Projects, which includes the I-81 Viaduct Project, Central NY Forward, and other largescale projects. Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Direct and monitor the progress of multiple priority projects concurrently and represent the Department’s interest in these projects to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Maintain effective working relationships with all Federal, State, and Local Agencies and appropriate elected officials on matters related to the priority projects.
- Oversee consultant services including the preparation of requests for proposals; selection of consultants and supervision of consultant work; and ensuring that goals, objectives, and elements of the project are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and funding parameters.
- Develop work plans and manage Department & consultant staff responsible for overseeing performance of Department’s Projects in both design and construction.
- Track the delivery of the construction projects; participate in construction update meetings; provide direction in the implementation of the construction contract; and direct and monitor compliance with schedule and budget requirements.
- Act as the primary Department contact on Priority Projects and orchestrate processes and procedures on site, ensure that project budget expenditures remain within budget allocation, phase and schedule requirements are met, and provide the project team with the necessary resources to complete the project.
- Report project details to NYSDOT Executives and State Officials.
