The Senior Attorney for this very busy downstate Regional Office will be tasked with a myriad of legal responsibilities encompassing a variety of DEC programmatic areas. The attorney among other duties, would be responsible for representing the Department in permit and enforcement hearings and settlement conferences, as well as working closely with the Office of the Attorney General on matters being litigated through the courts. Therefore, strong negotiation skills as well as polished advocacy, research and writing skills are required, as well as excellent communication skills. The attorney is expected to acquire a foundation in applicable laws, rules and regulations, case law, Attorney General Opinions, Declaratory Rulings and Department policy.
Candidate must possess a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel and overnight travel may be required, including travel for meetings, hearings, training, and to accompany staff for field visits.
Overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response, including after-hours emergencies.
