What are the responsibilities and job description for the Applications Engineer – HVAC / Heat Pumps position at Nyle Water Heating Systems?
Applications Engineer – HVAC / Heat Pumps
Nyle Water Heating Systems | Bangor, Maine | Full-Time, On-Site | Up to 30% Travel
Build Your Engineering Career in the Growing Heat Pump Industry
Nyle Water Heating Systems is looking for an Applications Engineer to help design, apply, start up, and commission commercial heat pump water heating systems across North America.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer who wants to do more than sit behind a desk. You will work directly with mechanical engineers, contractors, building owners, and Nyle's network of manufacturer representatives to help turn real-world building requirements into high-efficiency heat pump systems.
You do not need to be a heat pump or HVAC expert when you arrive. We are looking for someone with a strong engineering foundation, mechanical aptitude, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. We will teach you our products, applications, and industry.
Approximately 70% of your time will be spent supporting system design and applications from our Bangor office, with approximately 30% travel to customer job sites for equipment startup, commissioning, training, and technical support.
If you enjoy solving technical problems, working with customers, and seeing the systems you help design actually get installed and operate in the field, this could be a great fit.
What You'll Do
Design & Applications Engineering
- Help engineers, contractors, and Nyle's manufacturer representatives size and select commercial heat pump water heating equipment for real-world projects.
- Review building loads, operating conditions, plumbing & mechanical schematics, equipment specifications, and project requirements to recommend appropriate system designs.
- Develop equipment selections and system recommendations for heat pump and heat recovery applications.
- Work with customers and consulting engineers to develop practical integration plans for Nyle equipment.
- Prepare technical selections, quotations, and presale documentation in coordination with the sales team.
Startup & Field Engineering
- Travel to commercial job sites throughout North America to start up and commission Nyle heat pump systems.
- Work directly with mechanical contractors, controls contractors, engineers, and building owners to verify proper equipment installation and operation.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, controls, plumbing, and system-integration issues in the field.
- Provide technical guidance to contractors during installation and startup.
- Support customer and manufacturer-representative training in the field.
Travel is expected to average approximately 30%.
Customer & Sales Engineering Support
- Serve as a technical resource for Nyle's manufacturer representatives, customers, contractors, and consulting engineers.
- Answer questions about equipment capabilities, specifications, system design, and installation.
- Work with the sales team to move projects from initial concept through equipment selection, design review, quotation, order, and eventual startup.
- Build strong working relationships with customers by providing responsive, practical technical support.
