Position Summary: The Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality (TRQ) is responsible for the recruitment of diverse and talented teachers to meet the staffing needs of New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) and programs, as well as being responsible for initiatives to promote the equitable and quality distribution of teachers across all schools. Research has repeatedly shown that teacher quality is the single most important variable in raising student learning. TRQ accomplishes its work through a strategic, data driven approach that focuses on the following efforts:

Key Relationships: Key staff from national and local colleges of education; staff within the Division of Human Resources, Office of Student Pathways, Office of School Support, Young Men’s Initiative (YMI); City University of New York (CUNY); United Federation of Teachers (UFT) and community based organizations.

- Serve as the primary marketing agent and source of information to individuals seeking to become NYCPS teachers, to recruit a large, high quality, equitable and diverse pool of candidates.
- Design, manage recruitment and pathways for individuals to become NYCPS teachers, especially to address diversity, subject and geographic shortage areas.
- Select a diverse and high quality pool of candidates to become teachers through rigorous, research-driven, screening processes.
- Design and implement high quality professional development and experiences for teacher candidates.
- Provide inclusive best practices and support to schools to help them make optimal, local hiring decisions.
- Lead candidates to teacher certification within our communities to promote an equitable distribution of teachers across all schools.
- Support new teachers with consistent onboarding experiences across the system when they are hired and throughout their first year.

Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of our undergraduate and high school to teacher pathway programs.
- Support with data analysis and program evaluation to measure success.
- Use data and insights to support program improvement.
- Collaborate with CUNY and other Institutions of Higher Education to support the management and expansion of both pathway programs to meet the teacher vacancy needs of NYCPS.
- Cultivate deep partnerships with local community based organizations to build robust teacher pathway programs that enable candidates to work closely with students during their preparation.
- Support program management with wraparound programmatic support for participants, including mentorship, professional development opportunities, community engagement, etc.
- Support the recruitment and communications strategy for both pathway programs.
- Work closely with the Office of Student Pathways, Office of School Support and other key stakeholders.
- Work across departments within the NYCPS as well as the United Federation of Teachers (UFT), to support the implementation of career ladder pathway programs, including a high school to teacher pathway and paraprofessional to teacher pathway. This involves:
- Collaborating across NYCPS offices to build a robust program with a clear value proposition for candidates;
- Developing marketing and recruitment materials;
- Supporting meeting ambitious recruitment targets; and
- Tracking candidate progress throughout the program.
Minimum
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
- High school graduation or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience as described in “1” above.

- Experience working in or with NYCPS or other urban school systems.

- Superior public speaking and relationship management skills; the ability to influence and motivate others.
- Deep understanding of the education sector and general knowledge of both national and New York State policies.
- Understanding of issues and opportunities associated with recruiting a diverse teaching force.
- Familiarity with the New York State certification regulations and requirements.
